Detoxing your life with positivity

Many dietitians and health consultants recommend for their patients to detox their bodies, by providing them with a diversity of customized recipes. Detoxifying, now commonly known as detoxing, is the process of chasing out the many toxic substances that our bodies are consuming. What you may not know, is that our mind can also be attacked by toxins such as negative feelings, emotions and thoughts that may affect our judgements, behaviors and relations. I am not a dietician or a physician, yet I can provide you with seven practical steps that I tried myself and that can help cleanse your mind, body and soul and, as a result, your life.

  1. Count your blessings. Take, on a daily basis, a moment to remember your happy memories by looking at an old album, a picture in a folder or by flipping through your smart phone pictures.
  2. Know that positivity is a choice. Look at the mirror every morning and affirm to yourself that it is going to be a great day and that you will be happy no matter what. In case you are faced with a challenging situation, remember that you can choose how this situation affects you and that it’s up to you to be positive regardless of what’s happening around you.
  3. Learn to let go. What is done cannot be undone, but you must believe that things will improve. Letting go of the negative past will help you move on.
  4. Destroy the wall that is surrounding you. While you may want to push some negative people away, don’t push all people away because you could be hurting yourself. Positive energy is maximized when you include positive people in your life.
  5. Learn to like yourself. People who like themselves have a higher chance of being liked by others. This will improve your self-esteem and will make you happier.
  6. Don’t postpone. Laziness drains your prospects for a positive life. Many people postpone their decision to change and be happy for the next day, but their tomorrow never comes and they will lose their chance to achieve, win or love.
  7. Be responsible. Only you can change and make things happen. You cannot ‘un-happen’ what already happened but you can decide what will happen.

Just because you had a hard yesterday, doesn’t mean that today will be similar. Every new day offers boundless opportunities, like meeting new people who can energize your life. It is up to you to choose how you want your day to be. If you had a bad day in the recent past, you could repeat what happened and live the tragedy again, or learn from it and consider this new day a new opportunity to grab life and appreciate the moment. Be positive and everything else will slowly fall into place, and you will perhaps become the reason for other people’s happiness.
